Week 2 | The Impact of Multilingualism On Personal Identity Development

That day, I woke up at 4 AM to watch a YouTube video about multilingualism. I was so nervous because I was afraid of being chosen to do an impromptu speech in front of the class. To prepare myself, I watched the video carefully, listened closely to the speaker, and took detailed notes.

From the video, I learned that multilingualism is the ability of a person or group to communicate effectively in three or more languages. It has various impacts, such as in the career aspect, where it helps you understand diverse perspectives, retain more information, and perform tasks efficiently. In the social aspect, it boosts confidence, strengthens identity, and makes you proud of yourself. Additionally, multilingualism enhances cognitive abilities, making you more open-minded to new ideas and better at solving problems.

When I was in class, I wanted to participate like my classmates and share my thoughts. However, I held back because I was too afraid of making mistakes. Looking back, I regret not trying. I realize that making mistakes is part of learning, and I need to be braver in the future.
